Dry, split firewood for outdoor fires is available for purchase on-site at $10/load (40" x 16" x 14") delivered to the fire ring. Please check our outdoor fire and firewood policy.

Our cabins have a lot of country charm. We have been told that these cabins, two were originally forest service ranger cabins, take a person a step back in time. They are clean, bright, non-smoking and are tastefully decorated with a few antiques. Each unit is set up independently and equipped for the maximum number of occupants as specified. We do not provide roll-away cots to sleep additional guests above the maximum specified per unit or to provide separate single beds.

We do not have facilities (common kitchen, dining hall and washrooms) for large gatherings and therefore discourage group bookings. Each unit is to be reserved and reservation deposit paid by the individual who will be responsible for balance payment, compliance to our polices and reimbursement for repair of any damage or the cleaning of any excessive mess. We require that any accidental damage that occurs to be brought to our attention prior to check-out. We strive to provide clean and quiet accommodations and expect guests to co-operate with us fully in this regard.

We do not provide daily maid service. Our accommodations are equipped for guests to do their own light housekeeping. With longer term stays exceeding one week duration, weekly maid service is provided.

There are no telephones in the cabins. There is good cell phone reception at our location through Telus. WIFI wireless service is available on-site for internet connection with personal computers.

In Alberta, it is customary to remove outside footwear upon entering a private residence or guest cabin. Please bring slippers or clean deck shoes for inside wear. Extra cleaning fees will apply for those who choose not to comply.

Old Entrance "Rosie" Sunrise, Jan. 2009

Rosie and Mule Deer April 2009

Great camping spot! Our location at Old Entrance is virtually mosquito free due to lack of nearby standing water and our mountain breezes.

Our main house is a restored historic 1914 "Entrance" railway station, the original "Gateway to the Rockies", located on the long abandoned Canadian Northern Railway grade. The CNR trans-continental rail line is operational on the original GTPR line on the opposite side of the river from Old Entrance. The trains are obscured from view by the forest but they can be heard at Old Entrance location passing by from time to time throughout the day and night. Noise from the trains is not noticeable inside of our house or cabins but can be fairly loud outside and along the river's edge.

Nestled in the foothills along the eastern slopes of the Rockies our 60 acre property and surrounding crown lands provide excellent trails for various year-round outdoor activities; sightseeing, bird watching, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing and ATV touring.

We offer private fully-serviced cabins, a rustic cabin, two bedroom guest suite in our main house, cozy riverside teepees and riverside campsites in a very safe environment. Each unit is set up independently and suitable for the maximum occupancy number specified. We do not have facitities for and therefore discourage large group gatherings.

Old Entrance is a scenic historic site along the Athabasca River, a ten minute drive from Hinton's Parks West Mall and 18-hole golf course. The east gate of Jasper National Park is a fifteen minute drive on Highway #16 and world famous Miette Hot Springs is a half hour away.

We're conveniently located near the trans-Canada Yellowhead Highway #16 between Vancouver and Edmonton on Bighorn Highway #40 North, the scenic Alaska route. Old Entrance is a ten minute drive from Hinton's shopping and dining a a 45 minute drive from Jasper townsite. Please check our MAPS webpage for detailed driving instructions and a map.

Our main house is the recently restored historic 1914 "Entrance" railway station, the original "Gateway to the Rockies", located on the long abandoned Canadian Northern Railway grade. The Guest Suite is located on the lower floor level. The CNR trans-continental rail line is operational on the original GTPR line on the opposite side of the river from Old Entrance.

Guests' pets are welcome but must be kept under strict control at all times. A per night or per week fee is charged for all pets staying with guests on-site. Pets must not be left unattended at any time.

For those traveling with their own horses we offer overnight holding corrals or stable. We advise bringing your horse feed and own watering bucket or tub. Water is available at the corrals.
